Do you honor The Great commandment? 1112

Do you honor The Great Commandment?

Jesus said to him, ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.” (Matthew 22:37-40 NKJV)

The first 4 commandments show how we love God. The last 6 show how we love our neighbors. How can we desire to do less?

According to the Bible, they are:

“I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. ”

God provided clear description of what His people are like. If you follow God, you agree.

1) “You shall have no other gods before Me. ”

There is only one God. You either honor Him and received His blessings or you don’t, and suffer life without His blessings. The problem is that many want the blessings without God or honoring Him as God. There are no eternal blessings without God. Since God is omniscient, God’s way leads to blessings and joy. Heaven is a place where God is. His Word tells us the truth. God isn’t mocked. Why would God allow deceptive people to curse His people? Blessing flow from godly people, curses from evil ones. If God is with us, who can prevail against us?

God tells us that naturally ( without God’s intervention), none are good, That He by His grace gives faith to His elect, That this faith sanctified our heart, That His law (will) is written on our heart, That we become the temple of His Spirit, That this Holy Spirit will guide us to truth and protect us from deception, That although we are tempted to sin and will stumble at times, we will obey Him.

If this describes you, you are saved and belong to Him. If it doesn’t describe you, you aren’t yet saved. The saved are saved FROM sin, NOT free to sin.

God also warns us that there are false prophets and teachers that deceive many ( but not the elect) to believe that you can follow God without knowing and trying to obey His will. This is the litmus test of wolves in sheep’s clothing. If you are saved, the Holy Spirit that lives within you will lead you to read, study, and wrestle with God’s word, until you accept it. If you are willing or eager to accept what others say the Bible says, without making sure its true, you are not yet saved, and the truth I not in you.

There is only one true path, and Jesus is the way, truth, and the life, and the Bible is that truth. Being nice or dedicated to a different faith, doesn’t mean they are to be admired or justified. It means they are deceived. On the other hand, God commands us to Love all others and even to love the enemies of God. To love them does not include to accept their beliefs, especially when it disagrees with God’s truth.

All of the following religions are mutually exclusive. Only a fool or someone seeking to deceive others would allow others destined to hell to precede unchallenged. Further, compassion for the lost, will motivate us to share both the love and truth of God, even with those who may be spiritually unable to accept it.

Mormonism is polytheistic and teach that you can work to become a god. Works righteousness is impossible and unbiblical.

The god of Islam as described in the koran is fundamentally different than the true God described in the Bible. The 5 pillars of Islam are also works righteousness. The word Islam means submit. Even Christians are called to submit to God’s will. Unfortunately, the outcome at Final judgement is uncertain since the will of the god of islam is difficult to know and it disagrees with the Bible.

The gospel of the Eastern orthodox churches are based on the scriptures and tradition that evolved under papal leadership up to 1054.
The gospel of Roman Catholic is based on scripture, tradition, and papal decree, further changed by ongoing papal modification. The current Catholic doctrine is fundamentally different than the true doctrine provided in the Bible. What evolved is works righteousness and tradition that clearly violates original biblical doctrine. In addition to prayers to God, they pray to Mary and saints. Only those who work at their salvation (according to Catholic doctrine), will be saved. It’s faith +works =salvation. Biblical doctrine states it is 100% God’s work. Since so much of Catholicism agrees with the Bible, many are willing to consider Catholics to be Christian. Fortunately, the Bible is spiritually discerned and the indwelling Holy Spirit leads the truly saved to truth and away from deception. The Holy Spirit wouldn’t lead anyone to idolatry by teaching the worship of statues, or prayer to dead men or women.

Modern Judaism have rejected Jesus as the Messiah, and no longer adhere to the old temple ceremonial law, that had become impossible since the ad 70 destruction of the temple. For over 2000 years, followers of judaism have been partially observing the traditions, but many are no longer seeking the Messiah. Before Christ was born, God accounted the faithful righteous. Without temple sacrifices (which points to Jesus and is accounted for them by faith), sin remains. Now that we live after Jesus’ death and resurrection, it is unlikely that their faith in ceremony can save them. Only through Jesus’ sacrifice will His people be saved. Today, Jews and Gentiles are saved only through Jesus.

All other religious beliefs that don’t claim to worship the Triune God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, by their own admission worship Other Gods.

2) “You shall not make for yourself a carved image—any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments. ”

Don’t make or worship idols. Idols are things made by man that they worship. Worship is something you lift up as more important than all other things. Money, status, knowledge, family, possessions, entertainment, witchcraft, or politics can be idols. God alone deserves our worship. We worship God by knowing Him and striving to honor Him by being more like Him ( in practice not authority). We pray, venerate, or worship idols to get our way. We worship God by seeking His way with a thankful heart. God never told us to worship the church, Mary or saints as a vehicle to get our way.Praying to Mary is not more effective than praying directly to God. It’s worthless and blasphemy. The true Mary, a redeemed sinner, can’t hear you prayers! Only God is worthy to be prayed to.

3) “You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain. The height of vanity is to claim His name and not try to obey His will. It’s vain to but your honor over God’s honor. Tattooing, using fowl language, and living in ungodliness while claiming to follow God is taking the name of The Lord your God in vain.

4) “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.

And He said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath. Therefore the Son of Man is also Lord of the Sabbath.” (Mark 2:27, 28 NKJV)

Is God The Lord of your sabbath? Is it blessed? Is it Holy, hallowed? Do we worship God by dedicating 1 day in 7 to Him, so that we may consider our spiritual walk, learn more about Him, and apply it to our walk? If we do, then and only then, is the sabbath a blessing to us and set apart, holy. As Christians, we are in Christ. Every day we seek to give God Glory and Honor Him. The apostles weren’t expected to keep the sabbath when they were with Jesus, because Jesus was The Lord of the sabbath and they were with Him and honoring Him. A case can be made that as Christians, we are in Christ continually so everyday is holy and we seek to honor God continually.

Did you know that Catholics scriptures are somewhat different with regard to what are the Ten Commandments? They only have 3 that apply to their relationship with God and instead have 7 that apply to relationships with others. The 2nd commandment about idolatry is missing and the 10th is broken into 2 separate ones. How else could they accept all the idolatry of Catholic Doctrine and practice? Nevertheless, it’s still violates the first commandment, so one wonders how they can ignore it.

Without salvation, none of us can keep the great commandment. That’s why salvation isn’t just important, it is essential!

In Jesus’ name,
